Sleepless. [Part I]

Hmm, i don't know why i decided on that title, but heck. I'm sleepless, so let's get on with the story!!

~Sleepless~Part I~

In the 18th century, there was lack of true security. There was scrutiny, treason, crimes, and petty robberies, running amok in the streets of old London. There were many stories during these dark and sorrowful times, but the story of a girl, was what's intriguing during those times. She was a rebel, a rebel to the corrupted government back then. She was an orphan, and as orphans always are, they're rebellious to the very end. She was no exception. And so, her tale starts in the dark streets of old England. It was a clear night, the moon wasn't shining, but it shed light just enough to see.

She was running. Running down the dark alleys in rags wasn't her desire but she was forced to. Several policemen trailed her down the alleys, with the Captain by their side. She had escaped. Escaped from the place she never wanted to be in, the dungeons. She was panting so hard, she could hardly catch her breath. But she would not stop running, not now, for if she does, all hope would be lost. So, she sprinted with all her might, reaching the next corner, she did something she shouldn't have done. She turned the corner and there it was, a deadend. She had no where to run. The wall was her ultimate doom. The officers were closing in and there was nothing she could do. She was damned.

"Ahah! Found you!" Shouted the Captain. He closed in to the girl and grabbed her by her hair.

"You impudent wretch you! How dare you defy the law! This would serve you another good year in the dungeon, or perhaps, if the Coroner doesn't see fit in that, he would just order a firing squad on you. Hahah, that would be a sight to behold wouldn't it? You've run just too many times, Marie! And I'll make sure this is your last escape."

Struggling with her hair, Marie tried to kick free but the Captain is just too humongous for her to defeat.

"Let go of me! LET GO OF MY HAIR! Ergh, LET ME GO!!"

"That will not happen....dear Marie. [Chuckles]"

"You filthy government DOG!"

"Ah, getting emotional are we? Puh-lease, you are in NO condition to thrash talk me, bitch. Officers, bring her back to her hole, where she belongs . AND if she ever escapes again, I'll make sure you people go into the cell with her."

Just when she thought all hope was lost, a dark figure appeared behind the Captain and his thugs.

"What the? Who are you? You are breaking the curfew you know? WHO ARE YOU? State your identity!" demanded the Captain.

"Dear Captain, dear, el kapitan. Do not anger yourself on such a.......fine night. Tonight is not the night for you to be angry! Tonight is the night where YOU shall shine beneath the moonlight! Ah, such a thought is just amusing. Dear Captain, please, let the girl go shall we?" said the figure.

"EL KAPITAN? You must have brass balls to call me EL KAPITAN! and i have NO intention of prancing in the moonlight you......you!.....you...! ARGH! MEN, GET HIM!"

The officers rushed for the black figure. The figure swiftly took out his weapon, which was a fencing blade, and cut all 4 of them in one clean swipe. All 4 of them lay dead on the cold ground. Then, he went for the Captain. Pointing his blade at him, he slowly advanced, smiling all the way. The Captain couldn't see his face, he could only see the shiny steel of his blood-stained blade in the darkness.

"Ahh! Get away! Don't come near! Or i shall have you in the name of the law!!"

"Oh yeah? Come get me."

"Nooo! Please! I beg you! Take the girl! She can go!!"

He moved closer and touched his blade on the Captain's face.

"Kapitan, please, behave yourself next time, or i might just be forced to cut off your ear............and your nose, and your other ear, or perhaps, i'll even take a finger as an extra."

"Yeesss sirrr!! [crying] Pleease, do not cut my eaaaaarr! And not my noose!"

"Be gone, lesser being. Go back to whence you came."

"Thank you! Thank you oh lord!" said the captain and he sprinted back out the alley.

With the captain gone, the figure turned his attention to the Marie. She was still sitting on the ground, stunned by what she have just witnessed. The figure helped her to her feet.

"My lady, are you hurt?"

"Emm, I guess not. Wait. Let's not get into this yet. What have you done?!"

"I just saved you?"

"OH, thank you very much! [sarcastically] Now we have FOUR dead officers? What the hell was that supposed to mean?"

"[Clears throat] It was self-defense, dear lady."

"YEAH, sure! Killing people in self-defense. Great excuse MONsieur!"

"Is this how you greet your saviour? If it is, i'm afraid i've got the wrong person."

"Erm......sorry,but this is just plain unacceptable! You've just made me and yourself the enemy of the state or something?"

"That, you need not worry. I have ways. Just let it go will ya?"

"What, you're gonna slice more people?"

"Please understand, Marie, that my blade spills the blood of whom deserves the blow. It will not seek the blood of the innocent nor the vigilant. Rest assured on that."

"Wait, how did you know my name?"

"I was about to explain that, but we've got to run. Hordes of government hounds would be pouring over this place in no time. There's no time to lose, come!"

The man took Marie by the hand and ran down the alley. The moonlight now shined over London with all it's glory............

~End of Part 1~
